Beauty is bound to spawn low level human traits such as greed, jealousy and envy. So naturally Kudagu seems to have a history of different wars ranging back to centuries with a lot of dynasties fighting for its control. It is believed that Kadambas ruled the region from 2nd to the 6th century. Then came the Ganga dynasty. After them came the Chola Dominance. In the 12th century the Hoyshyalas drove out the Cholas. The Vijayanagara Empire sprang in the 14th century to establish its supremacy over the region. The Haleri Kings came in the 1600’s and stayed for a couple of centuries. The climax to the horde of invaders came with the British who converted Kudagu into Coorg.
Coorg was brought into the Indian Union in 1947 and given statehood in 1956. Later on, it became a district of the state of Karnataka with the Taluks of Madikeri, Somwarpet and Veerarajapet.
